Ingredients
- Little Smokies (or Hot Dogs) - little smokies, cocktail sausages, or hot dogs are the pigs of pigs in a blanket. We love to use little smokies or cocktail sausages as they add a great smokey and salty flavor. However, you can also use hot dogs that have been cut into thirds.
- Cream Cheese - the base of the jalapeno popper filling. This cheese is perfect for baking as it gets nice and ooey gooey without fully melting when baked. It adds the perfect creamy texture and cheesy flavor.
- Jalapenos - these are a milder pepper so you don't need to be concered about an overly spicy pepper. To ensure the peppers are mild be sure to remove all seeds and ribs from the center of the peppers. The ribs are the while lines on the inside of the pepper that the seeds grow on. You can carefully use a knife to cut them out, or use a spoon to scoop them out.
- Extra spicy variation - if you prefer your peppers spicier, you can remove the seeds and leave some or all of the ribs on the pepper, the ribs are the spiciest part of the pepper!
- Crescent Rolls - using crescent rolls or store-bought puff pastry is the easiest way to make this recipe.
- Cheddar Cheese -this adds a pop of color and flavor to the jalapeno popper filling.
- Garlic Powder - gives the jalapeno popper filling a nice garlicky flavor!
- Salt and Pepper

- Preheat oven to 375°F and place oven rack at center position. Line a baking sheet pan with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl combine the room temperature cream cheese, cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until evenly combined.
- Slice the jalapenos in half and remove the seeds and white ribs that the seeds grow on inside of the pepper. Slice the peppers again in half or in thirds depending on the size of the pepper, you want each piece of pepper to be roughly the same length as the cocktail sausage. Stuff each piece of jalapeno with a spoonful of the prepared cheese mixture.
- Place one cocktail sausage (little smokie, or cut hotdog) on top of each stuffed jalapeno and gently press to stick to the cheese mixture.
- Open the tube of crescent roll dough. Unroll the dough on a flat surface (ex. cutting board or kitchen counter). Slice each pre-cut crescent roll into thirds so that you have 24 pieces of dough.
- Place each stuffed jalapeno on the widest side of a piece of crescent dough and roll the dough around. Press gently to seal. Place each prepared pig in a blanket on the prepared baking sheet placed 2" apart, seam side down.
Tip: when wrapping the dough, stretch the end of the dough to ensure that the end is at the bottom of each pig in a blanket so it does not unroll while baking. - Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melty.
- Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy!
Tips for the Best Recipe
- Cream Cheese - when preparing the jalapeno popper filling ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature so it is easier to stir together. You can leave it on the counter while you prepare the other ingredients or if you forget to take it out of the fridge you can microwave it on a microwave safe plate for about 15-30 seconds to soften it.
- Cheese Variations - this recipe is a great way to use up any leftover bars of cheese you may have in the fridge. Everything from cheddar cheese, mozzarella, Monterey jack, or even a jalapeno Havarti works great! It's a fun way to change up the flavor profile each time you make the.
- Flavor Variations - if you really want to level up your jalapeno popper pigs in a blanket you can add in crumbled cooked bacon into the cream cheese mixture! Bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers are one of the most popular variations of the classic appetizer so why not add some bacon to these to really kick them up a notch?!
