Ingredients
- Puff Pastry Sheets - a secret weapon in the kitchen! We always keep 2-3 packs of puff pastry in our freezer. It's the perfect ingredient to make a quick dessert or appetizer (Cranberry Brie Bites, Ham and Cheese Pinwheels, or Sausage Rolls to name a few!). Look for pre-rolled puff pastry sheets for the quickest recipes, or you can buy a brick of puff pastry and roll it out.
- Nutella - you can use regular Nutella, chocolate spread, or any brand of hazelnut spread you like. For some variation and extra crunch you can even use a crunchy hazelnut spread!
- Egg - whisked egg is brushed over the tops of the pastries. It gives them a shiny golden brown finish once they are baked. If you don't have an egg on hand you can omit this and the recipe still turns out great!
- Icing Sugar - this is optional, it is sprinkled over the tops of the pastries to give them a beautiful finish and also add an extra hint of sweetness.

- In a small bowl whisk the egg. Brush over the tops of each pastry.
- OVEN BAKING COOKING METHOD
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown (rotating and switching the pans halfway through cooking).
AIR FRYER COOKING METHOD
Working in batches depending on the size of your air fryer, cook the pinwheels in a single layer (about 3-4 pastries at a time) for 10-12 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and cooked through. - Once the pastries are cooked and cooled, sprinkle icing sugar over top. Enjoy!
Tips for the Best Pastries
- Pastry - for best results ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed. You can leave it in the fridge overnight, or on the kitchen counter at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes and it will be fully thawed. For the quickest recipe use pre-rolled sheets of puff pastry. If you can't find the pre-rolled sheets you can use a brick of puff pastry. Allow it to fully thaw and then roll it out to create two equal size square pieces.
- Assembly - when spreading the Nutella on the first sheet of puff pastry and then placing the second sheet on top, be sure to press down to seal them together and remove any large air pockets. This will ensure the pastries do not puff up too much while baking.
- Flavor Variations - for a nut free recipe you can use a nut free spread such as sun butter, wow butter, or a chocolate spread. You can also swap the Nutella for Biscoff spread, cookie butter, or regular peanut butter (not natural peanut butter)
