What are Oreo Truffles
Oreo truffles are a shortcut recipe to make truffles using only two ingredients. Crushed Oreos and cream cheese are mixed together to create the truffles. The combination of the sweet Oreo filling, cream cheese, and crushed Oreo cookies is simply divine! Once they are dipped in chocolate and decorated they look like truffles that came from a fancy shop.
More Valentine's Treats!
Ingredients
- Oreo Cookies - one of our favorite store-bought cookies! These cookies are packed with the most irresistible chocolate flavor and the best sweet filling.
- Cream Cheese - softened cream cheese is combined with Oreos to make the truffles. Be sure the cream cheese is at room temperature so it is easy to mix together.
- Decorating
- White Chocolate - we love to dip some truffles in white chocolate and decorate with pink, red and white sprinkles. You can also add some red food coloring to the white chocolate to tint it pink or red.
- Pink Candy Melts - these candy melts are an easier way to get pink truffles as you don't need any food coloring. You can use any combination of colored candy melts that you like.
- Chocolate - we love a classic dark chocolate truffle so for variety we like to dip some of the truffles in melted dark chocolate and top with sprinkles.
- Sprinkles - use any combination of sprinkles you like! Or instead of sprinkles you can drizzle a different color of chocolate over the truffle to decorate.

Note: the below recipe steps are to make half of the truffles in a heart shape using a small heart cookie cutter, and the remaining truffles are rolled into balls. if you do not have a small heart cookie cutter you can skip the steps with the square baking tray and simply roll the truffles into small balls.
- Line an 8” x 8” or 9” x 9” square baking tray with parchment paper. Cut the paper in a 8” or 9” long strip that slightly overhangs the pan so you can pull it out of the tray.
- Using a food processor or blender, add all of the Oreos in. Pulse until the cookies are finely crushed. Or you can place the cookies in a large Ziploc bag and crush them very finely using a rolling pin, bottom of a frying pan, or kitchen mallet.
- Add the room temperature cream cheese to the food processor or blender. Pulse until evenly combined with the cookies. Or transfer the crushed cookies into a large bowl and stir together with the cream cheese until evenly combined.
- Transfer the truffle mixture into the prepared dish lined with parchment paper. Press the mixture down into a smooth even layer.
- Place in the freezer for about 10 – 15 minutes or until firm.
- Use a very small heart shape cookie cutter to cut the truffle and transfer them to a plate or cutting board lined with a piece of parchment paper.
Tip: roll the leftover cut pieces together to make small round truffles. - Place the cut truffles into the freezer for about 10 – 15 minutes or until firm. This will make it easier to coat them in the melted chocolate.
- While the truffles chill, melt the chocolates you would like to use. Use a shallow microwave safe bowl for each different chocolate. Microwave the chocolate in 15 second internals, stirring after each, until fully melted and smooth. (Note: once the white chocolate is melted you can add a few drops of red food coloring to your preferred color).
- Remove the truffles from the freezer. One at a time place a truffle on a fork or on the end of a toothpick. Dip the truffles in the chocolate and allow the excess chocolate to drip off back into the bowl. Tap the fork or toothpick on the edge of the bowl to shake off the excess chocolate.
- Carefully transfer the dipped truffles to the piece of parchment paper on the plate or cutting board. Immediately add sprinkles on top or use a fork to drizzle a different color chocolate over the truffles to decorate.
- Repeat to decorate all truffles.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the chocolate to set before serving. Serve and enjoy! Note: the prepared truffles need to be refrigerated, they cannot be left at room temperature overnight.
Tips for the Best Truffles
- Chilling Times - it is very important to allow the truffles to chill before cutting them into heart shapes and before dipping them in chocolate. The truffle mixture will be very soft so the mixture needs to chill before using the cookie cutter or else the truffles will stick to the cutter. If you do not chill the truffles again before dipping them in chocolate it will be much harder to dip them as the outer layer of the truffle will start to melt and mix into the chocolate.
- Decorating - you can get creative with the decorating and use any combination of white chocolate, dark chocolate, or colored candy melts (ex. pink, red, white, purple, etc.). Use any sprinkles you like, especially red, white, pink or red sprinkles. If you can find very small heart shaped sprinkles or candies you can use those too! You can also drizzle different colored melted chocolate on the truffles to give them a fun design. Get creative and make a variety of different designed truffles!
- Flavor Variations - the best part about Oreo truffles is that you can use any variety of Oreo cookies. We love to use regular Oreo but you can use any of their other flavors like mint, birthday cake, caramel, etc.!
