What is Tzatziki?
Tzatziki Sauce is one of the most simple and delicious sauces! Tangy greek yogurt seasoned with dill, garlic, lemon and packed with fresh shredded cucumber.
Tzatziki sauce is a traditional yogurt based Greek sauce made with shredded cucumbers, garlic, lemon, and dill. It is served as a cold dip with pita bread or vegetables. Tzatziki is also the perfect sauce served with my grilled Pork Souvlaki Recipe Linked Here)!
Souvlaki are Greek skewers made with small pieces of meat, traditionally pork, lamb or chicken and sometimes vegetables like onions. The tangy tzatziki sauce is the perfect accompaniment for this flavor packed grilled meat.
What is in Tzatziki Sauce?
- With only 6 ingredients Tzatziki is one of the simplest sauces to make! However, it is incredibly delicious.
- Greek yogurt is the perfect tangy and thick base of the sauce. For a thick tzatziki use 2% greek yogurt or if you like it a bit thinner use 0%. In addition, tzatziki is a healthy dip with a yogurt base (no sour cream or mayo like most dips)!
- English cucumber is my preferred cucumber of choice for tzatziki. The cucumber is shredded and then salted to draw out the water. By doing this you do not need to remove the seeds from the cucumber and the sauce will last 3-4 days in the fridge without it becoming too watery from the cucumber.
- The simple yet delicious seasonings are fresh garlic, lemon juice, dill and a pinch of salt.

Wonderful recipes - I used Turkish yogurt, ( Labne), but otherwise followed the recipe as written and my guests literally ate it all up. Likewise for the pork souvlaki. I was a little concerned that the lemon juice would cook the pork so I only added it for a few hours. This makes for a memorable meal.
