What is in Sausage Rolls?
Star Ingredient
- Puff Pastry - is a secret weapon in the kitchen when it comes to easy appetizers. I always keep a pack a puff pastry in the freezer which makes it easy for me to put together an appetizer or snack in a flash
- Sausage - In this shortcut recipe we will be using store bought sausage. This cuts down on the prep time as you don't need to worry about seasoning ground pork to make your own filling. Simply pick up a pack of your favorite sausage and remove the casings for this recipe
- Our favorite flavor combination is honey garlic sausage with honey mustard. You can really use any flavor of raw pork sausage you like!
- Optional Toppings - to give the sausage rolls a fun design on top they can be topped with regular sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, Everything Bagel seasoning, or coarse salt.

Tips for the Best Sausage Rolls!
- Sausage - it is absolutely crucial to remove the casing from the sausage! If you leave the casing on or forget to remove them the sausage rolls will burst open while cooking and it will be really hard to slice the sausage rolls.
- Puff Pastry - thaw puff pastry in the fridge before using. To ensure the pastry does not stick, lightly flour your kitchen counter or cutting board. Lightly brush the pastries with egg wash before baking to ensure a nice golden brown color.
- Flavor Variations - the fun this about making these shortcut sausage rolls is that you can switch up the flavor just by using a different sausage. We love using honey garlic sausage and honey mustard. However you can use chorizo sausage, sweet Italian sausage, hot Italian sausage or any raw pork sausage you like. If you use a smoked sausage the recipe will be more like pigs in a blanket than sausage rolls but those are delicious too!
FAQ
Air Fryer – Preheat Air Fryer to 400˚F. Add to the air fryer basket or tray and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until warmed through.

Refrigerate in air tight container in the fridge up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
I recommend only making this recipe up to 2 days in advance. Reheat in the oven or air fryer before serving and enjoy.
Cooked sausage rolls can be frozen for up to 3 months in an air tight container or Ziploc bag. If freezing in a container, add a piece of parchment paper between layers to prevent them from sticking together. Allow sausage rolls to thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat with the above steps, or reheat from frozen (add 2-3 minutes to the reheating time).
Use gluten free store bought or homemade puff pastry and be sure to use a gluten free sausage.
