Ingredients
- Baguette - you can use store bought or homemade crostini for this recipe. Home made takes about 5 minutes extra to make as you need to slice the baguette, brush them with oil and then bake for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Arugula - prosciutto and arugula is a classic Italian combination. Arugula has a peppery flavor that pairs perfect with cured meats, cheese and sweet balsamic glaze.
- Prosciutto - what's not to love about this delicate meat! It's flavor is so unique and delicious. You can swap for genoa salami, summer sausage, salami, or shaved black forest ham. You can even make some with a spicy salami like a hot cacciatore or spicy calabrese salami.
- Boursin Cheese - we love to use herb and garlic Boursin cheese for this recipe. It is so rich, creamy and flavor packed. You can swap this for herb and garlic cream cheese or really any spreadable cheese that you like!
- Balsamic Glaze - this is can be omitted if you don't have it on hand but it is highly recommended. It gives the crostini the most beautiful finish that makes them look extra fancy. It's sweet, sticky, and oh so delicious!
- Note: do not swap the balsamic glaze for regular balsamic vinegar. Balsamic glaze is a reduced sweetened balsamic vinegar that has a thick syrup consistency.

Tips for the Best Crostini
- Crostini - for the quickest recipe you can use a box of store bought crostini. They sell them in all different flavors too so you can even change up the flavor a bit each time you make them! If making the crostini from scratch all you need is a baguette and some olive oil. It will only take you 5 minutes to prep them.
- Assembly - for best results we recommend spreading the cheese on the crostini first then topping with arugula. The prosciutto on top holds the arugula in place so that it doesn't fall off when your guests pick one up or while they are eating.
- Flavor Variations - this appetizer is a great way to use up leftover charcuterie ingredients! You can use any spreadable cheese you have (flavored or not). Instead of arugula you can omit this if you don't have any on hand. The meat can be customized as well, this recipe works great with prosciutto or genoa salami, summer sausage, salami, or shaved black forest ham. You can even make some with a spicy salami like a hot cacciatore or spicy calabrese salami!
FAQ
This appetizer is best served at room temperature. If you are making homemade crostini you want the crostini to be cooled to room temperature or else they will melt the cheese.
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an air tight container or platter covered with plastic wrap for up to 1-2 days. The longer they are in the fridge the crostini will become soft and the arugula will begin to wilt.
This recipe is not freezer friendly.
For a vegetarian recipe you can swap the prosciutto for a plant based deli meat alternative, or caramelized onions.
