These hot chocolate rice krispie treats are a fun twist on two classic treats, rice krispies and hot cocoa! The treats are flavored with a combination of milk chocolate chips and hot cocoa mix. Ingredients

- Rice Krispies Cereal - any brand of puffed rice cereal will work for this recipe. You can also use cocoa puffs but they are often tricky to find in stores.
- Marshmallows - a bag of large marshmallows is melted down to create the base of the rice krispie treats.
- Mini Marshmallows - stirred into the treats to add give them a hot cocoa vibe!
- Hot Chocolate Mix - stirred into the marshmallow base to give them a rich cocoa flavor. You can change up the flavor profile by using a flavored hot cocoa mix such as salted caramel or peppermint!
- Chocolate Chips - melted into the marshmallow base to give them an extra rich chocolate flavor.
- Butter - melted into the marshmallow base, this keeps them nice and ooey gooey without hardening too much.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats

- Grease a 9"x13" baking tray with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.
- Place a large pot on low heat and melt the butter.
- Add the chocolate chips to the pot and stir until the chocolate has melted.
- Stir in the hot chocolate mix until fully combined.
- Add in the marshmallows and stir continuously until the marshmallows have fully melted. Stir until everything is evenly melted and combined.
- Remove the pan from the heat and pour in the rice krispies cereal. Gently mix using a spatula or wooden spoon. Mix until the cereal is evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.
Tip: spray the spatula with cooking spray so that the mixture does not stick as much to the spatula. - Gently stir in the ⅓ cup of the mini marshmallows. Some of them will melt slightly and some will remain whole. It gives the treats a nice variety.
- Gently spread the mixture into an even layer in the prepared pan. Do not press the mixture down too much, just press it down enough to create an even layer of the rice krispie treats.
- Decorate the top with more mini marshmallows, sprinkles, chocolate chips, or candies of choice. Gently press them down to ensure they stick.
- Let cool for 30 minutes. Slice into 18 or 24 squares. Serve and enjoy!

- Storage - be sure to store leftovers in an airtight container or else the treats will harden if left uncovered. You can store them up to one week in advance or freeze them in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 3 months.
