Piri Piri (or Peri Peri) sauce is a hot sauce made from African Bird’s Eyes Chilis. It is a staple in Portuguese cooking and is growing in popularity making it more readily available in grocery stores.

Portuguese BBQ piri piri chicken is a staple in Portuguese cooking. The chicken is marinated in piri piri sauce and served with more sauce for dipping.

These egg rolls are a creamy cheesy twist on the classic piri piri chicken. They are highly addictive and are a great make ahead appetizer!

What is in Buffalo Piri Piri Egg Rolls?

  • The star of the show in these egg rolls is the piri piri hot sauce (or hot sauce of choice, ex. Tabasco sauce) that is tossed with shredded cooking chicken breast. Depending on your desired level of spice, add as little or as much hot sauce as you like! Cream cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese pair perfectly for a spicy creamy filling. Green onions are mixed in for a pop of color and freshness.
  • Egg roll wrappers are found in the refrigerator section of grocery stores (near the tofu and refrigerated salad dressings)

1 In a large bowl combine the shredded chicken, cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, hot sauce and green onions. Mix until evenly combined.

2 To assemble the egg rolls add 2-3 spoonful’s of the chicken filling to the center of each egg roll wrapper.

3 Wet the edges of the egg roll wrapper with water. Fold in two opposite corners to the center and then tightly roll. Repeat with remaining egg roll wrappers.

How to Cook Piri Piri Chicken Egg Rolls

AIR FRYER COOKING METHOD
Brush both sides of the egg rolls with oil and Air Fry at 400F for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown. Flip halfway through cooking and brush with more oil as needed.


STOVE TOP COOKING METHOD
Heat a deep pot with oil on medium heat. Fry the egg rolls in small batches for 5 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel lined plate.


OVEN COOKING METHOD
Brush the egg rolls with oil on both sides. Place directly on a sheet pan lined with tin foil OR on a sheet pan with a rack. Bake at 400F for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Flip halfway through cooking and brush with more oil as needed.

Serve with ranch dressing to dip and enjoy!

How to Reheat Piri Piri Chicken Egg Rolls

Use one of these 3 options to reheat your egg rolls:

AIR FRYER REHEATING METHOD

Air Fry the cooked egg rolls at 400°F for 5 minutes, flipping halfway through. The egg roll wrapper will get crispy on the outside.

OVEN REHEATING METHOD

Place cooked egg rolls directly on a sheet pan lined with tin foil OR on a sheet pan with a rack. Bake at 400°F for 5 minutes. Flip halfway through reheating. The egg roll wrapper will get crispy on the outside.

MICROWAVE REHEATING METHOD

Microwave in 15 second intervals until warmed through (note: this reheating method will not make the egg roll wrapper crispy)
