Soft flaky fish coated in crunchy crushed corn flakes. Seasoned to perfection and air fried (or baked) this corn flake crusted fish is a lightened up version on the classic fish and chips.
Corn Flake Crusted Fish Recipe
A crunchy coating on soft and flaky fish always takes me back to my childhood dinners with frozen boxes of fish sticks. This lightened up homemade version is quick and delicious that recreates the classic nostalgic dish.
My fish of choice for this corn flake crusted fish dish is Basa. The fish holds up well with the crunchy coating and is perfectly flaky. Any white fish will work for this dish (ex. sole, halibut, haddock).
What is in this dish?
With just a few simple ingredients you can have dinner on the table in 30 minutes making this a great weeknight dinner!
Star Ingredient
- Corn Flakes are a great coating to use for an air fried or baked fish dish. The corn flakes themselves are already crunchy so even without deep frying we can achieve the same crunch by air frying or baking.

1 If using frozen fish, thaw and pat dry with a towel. Depending on the size of the fish cut into smaller pieces as desired.
2 Mix the dry rub ingredients together and sprinkle over both sides of the fish and rub in with hands.
3 Prepare a dredging station using 3 bowls. Add the cornflakes to one bowl and gently crush. Combine flour, pinch of salt and pepper to another bowl and stir. Add the whisked eggs to the third bowl.
4 Preheat Air Fryer or oven to 400°F.
5 Using two hands, keep 1 hand for the dry ingredients and one for the wet. First dip the fish into the flour, then the egg, then the cornflakes. Use your hands to gently push down and pack on the cornflakes to ensure they stick well.
AIR FRYRER COOKING METHOD
Spray both sides of the fish with cooking spray and add 3-4 pieces to your air fryer (or the quantity that fits). Cook for approximately 15 minutes flipping once halfway through.
OVEN COOKING METHOD
Prepare a large cookie sheet with a wire rack on top. Spray both sides of fish with cooking spray and add the pieces of fish on top of the wire rack and cook approximately 15 minutes flipping once halfway through until golden brown and cooked through.
Serve with French fries, steamed vegetables, or a side salad and enjoy!
